Education

Lifeline artists are passionate about the written word. Just as we focus on staging literary adaptations for adult audiences, we also care about making books come alive for the children in our community. In addition to serving thousands of youth and families through our season of KidSeries productions, we offer the following education and outreach programs.

In-School Residencies
Our professional artists team up with classroom teachers in Chicago Public Schools to teach drama and drama-integration to children in grades K-8. Our programs aim to impart basic principles of performance to students and supply teachers with techniques and strategies to translate those principles to other areas of curricular learning. Through customized programs for each classroom and hands-on teacher training throughout our residencies, we empower educators to open new pathways of academic development for kinesthetic learners, visual learners and those with special needs. We incorporate the Illinois State Goals and Standards for Fine Arts, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science, as well as the Social-Emotional Learning Goals to make drama a fun and an effective learning tool.

In the 2008-09 school year, Lifeline taught in-school and after school residencies in local schools Armstrong, Edgebrook, Edison, Jordan, Kilmer, Lincoln, New Field, and Swift; in sum serving 26 teachers and over 800 students.
